Pansonic

13 minutes, Cameroon / Belgium (2003)
language: english / french
Stefaan Dheedene

Pansonic is shot in the East-provence of Cameroon, near the Dja reserve (in the congo bassin). A small antilope is being trapped. After killing the animal, the hunter repares his trap for a next catch. Afterwards, the animal is being butchered, guided by a ▒Pansonic▓ radio on the BBC-World program ▒business in english▓ which teaches english to francophones in a business context. The camera viewpoint is one of observation, it shows a logical and chronological sequence of events that demand for a didactic ▒national geographic - like▓ input, but leaves the viewer with exotic images and a BBC-World radioshow. The radioshow makes part of that same observation, as it is a real presence in that village and has been recorded there.

Have a Break

2 minutes, Germany (2003)

Have a Break is a small but an insightful piece that says masses about the structures of racial hierarchies, consumer culture and the western world manifesto. It amplifies a mundane moment of Berlin's main train station (Zoologischer Garten) in a jovial and yet satirical fashion by simply capturing a routine walk - but is it a walk towards work, school or office, or a walk towards the self-styled freedom, liberation or democracy?

Más muertas vivas que nunca (More living dead than ever)

7 minutes, Spain (2002)
language: Spanish(english available, both versions on tape) subtitles: no
MEIAC, Extremaduran and Iberoamerican Museum of Contemporary Art.

A person, a young dead woman whispers in our ears. She participated in the collectivizations of the properties of landlords in Extremadura and Andalucia, being one of the between 2000 and 4000 persons executed in the bullring of Badajoz, from the 14th of August of 1936, day of the occupation of the city by Franco’s troops at the begining of the Spanish Civil War. Her voice talks from death, understanding it as a mental state of expectancy of what the living ones can do out of their societies. This woman would be sad, disstressed for the sterility of her fight, for the easyness with which the oblivion helps in the lose of rights, and with which the energy and life of wasted, those others previous in time that fought and assumed the risk in their lifes to make out of the world a better place. She struggles between the complete death that would carry along the definite disappearence of all the effects of her fight and of the one of others like her, or the still visible positive consequences of it, resisting the submission to a cold absurd world, which doesn´t give men and women any profound reason to care among themselves.
